End User Access

Learn how end users access and interact with their digital mailbox on the Barid platform.

User Authentication

End users authenticate to Barid using UAE Pass, the UAE government's official digital identity platform.

Authentication Flow

  1. User navigates to the Barid application
  2. Clicks "Sign in with UAE Pass"
  3. Redirects to UAE Pass for secure authentication
  4. After successful authentication, returns to Barid with verified identity
  5. Session is established with automatic token refresh

UAE Pass Integration

UAE Pass provides:

  • Verified Identity: Government-verified user information
  • Secure Authentication: No password management required
  • Seamless Experience: Single sign-on across government services
  • Privacy Protection: User data is securely handled and stored

Receiving Content

Once authenticated, users automatically receive digital content from all senders registered in the Barid platform.

Content Types

Users receive two types of content:

  • Letters: Official communications, notices, and correspondence
  • Invoices: Bills, payment requests, and financial documents

Content Delivery

  • Content appears automatically in the user's mailbox when sent by registered senders
  • Users receive notifications for new content
  • All content is organized by sender and can be sorted into custom folders
  • Content is searchable and accessible from any device

Sender Preferences

Users have full control over which senders they receive content from.

Opt-Out Options

Users can manage their preferences at multiple levels:

Complete Opt-Out

  • Stop receiving all content from a specific sender
  • Sender will be notified that the user has opted out
  • Previously received content remains accessible

Content-Type Opt-Out

  • Opt out of letters only: Continue receiving invoices but no letters
  • Opt out of invoices only: Continue receiving letters but no invoices
  • Useful for users who only want specific types of communications

Managing Preferences

Users can update their sender preferences at any time:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Sender Preferences
  2. View all connected senders
  3. Toggle preferences for each sender:
    • All content
    • Letters only
    • Invoices only
  4. Changes take effect immediately

Staging Environment

URL: https://qa.app.barid.ae

  • Testing environment for validation and QA
  • Uses UAE Pass staging authentication
  • For testing sender integrations before production deployment

Notifications

Users are notified when they receive new letters or invoices from registered senders.

Notification Channels

In-App Notifications

  • Real-time notifications within the Barid application

  • Mark as read/unread functionality

Email Notifications

  • Automatic email alerts for new content
  • Users can configure email preferences in settings
  • Summary format with sender name and content type
  • Direct links to view content in Barid

Push Notifications (Mobile App)

  • Instant push notifications on mobile devices
  • Configurable notification preferences
  • Quick actions to view content directly

Notification Rules

Currently, the notification system applies uniform rules for all senders:

  • All users receive notifications for new content from any sender (unless opted out)
  • Notification timing and delivery are consistent across all senders
  • Users can globally enable/disable notifications by channel (in-app, email, push)
  • Users can opt out of content from specific senders to stop receiving their notifications
Future Enhancement

Sender-Specific Notification Rules are planned for a future release. This will allow:

  • Senders to define custom notification preferences
  • Priority levels for urgent communications
  • Customized notification timing and frequency
  • Sender-specific notification templates
  • Advanced delivery rules based on content type or metadata

Managing Notification Preferences

Users control their notification preferences through:

  1. Global Settings: Enable/disable each notification channel
  2. Sender Opt-Out: Stop all notifications from specific senders
  3. Content-Type Filtering: Opt out of letters or invoices only
  4. Quiet Hours: Configure do-not-disturb periods (coming soon)

Note for Senders: When users opt out of your content (completely or by type), they will no longer receive notifications for that content. Ensure your communications provide value to minimize opt-outs.
